PL EN is a startup created in Wrocław, with an objective to develop the quality of urban space and change the way responsibility for the city is perceived. The fact that cities belong to its inhabitants stipulates their rights but also their obligations towards the space and the public goods. It’s an attempt to create a platform for the local community where using technology the residents can connect to create a new quality of space and life in their immediate environment by implementing their own ideas of the surrounding reality. The city is a huge living, constantly changing tissue. Subjected to processes of degradation and creation. However, nothing happens spontaneously. The majority of processes occurring in the urban space of is projected and degradation occurs through negligence and lack of responsibility. Thus, the quality decline also depends on the population. Each realized project improving the quality of the surrounding space shows how great impact on the city life quality the residents have. Many people are afraid of regaining the power of the city through grassroots initiatives which is often due to aesthetics incompatible with the middle class preferences. However there’s an immense potential in such initiatives, which, given the right directions, may become an important factor influencing the city.

lecture, Museum of Architecture shall become a tool to facilitate implementation of residents’ ideas in urban areas. It shall allow for an open discussion and implementation of projects promoted by leaders, yet, with the participation of local communities. Bottom up initiatives indicating needs, such as repainting the staircase, repairing the playground or improving the city square functionality are real issues of vital importance for residents, though in different scales. Shared responsibility for the quality of life and quality of the immediate environment influences the future look of the city. Functionality of urban space depends also on the users themselves and the extent of their participation in the process of creation. Designing for residents without their active participation is a farce, which is more and more taken into account. It’s much easier to achieve sincerity and proper functionality of semi-private and semi-public space when ideas come from the users themselves. When results from their needs and feelings.
